CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE COUNSELLING
Sometimes young people need someone to talk to outside of friends and family
A counsellor from our Children and Young People’s Counselling Service can listen to your concerns and help you to make sense of what is going on, giving you the time to talk about what is happening for you and enable you to get help with problems that may seem too difficult to share with anyone else.
COUNSELLING CAN HELP YOU...
- Talk about difficult things, maybe for the first time
- Explore the way you think and feel without fear of criticism, rejection or retaliation
- Find ways to cope with current difficulties or what happened in the past
- Get a clearer understanding of how you feel about other people in your life
- See if there may be repeating patterns of behaviour and thinking that are not helpful to you
- Make changes in your life that offer you greater freedom in thought and action
The Young People’s Service has been set up to offer an affordable counselling service to young people. The first meeting with the counsellor is fixed at £60. In that initial meeting the counsellor will listen to your reasons for seeking counselling and if you decide to go forward with counselling the counsellor will look with you at what you can afford to pay on a weekly basis for your counselling going forward.
At present we are offering this service to young people who are between 11 – 21 years old.
The SCC Counselling Service has been accredited by BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) since 2003.
The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) is a membership organisation and a registered charity that sets standards for therapeutic practice and provides information for therapists, clients of therapy, and the general public.
STARTING
You can contact us directly or an adult can contact us on your behalf if you prefer. This could be your parent, carer, teacher, or anyone else you trust. They can ring the number below to arrange a meeting with one of our counsellors, who will either contact you or the person referring you.
THE INITIAL CONSULTATION
The initial consultation is fixed at £60 and will last up to an hour and a half. This is to allow time for you to discuss what is troubling you and for the counsellor to explain confidentiality and how the counselling will work should you wish to proceed. If both of you feel that counselling at SCC is not right for you, there will be an opportunity to see what other help may be available.
At the initial consultation if there is parent/carer involved in funding the counselling sessions, they will be invited into the counselling room before the end of the initial consultation to discuss the payment of fees going forward.
AFTER THE CONSULTATION
If you and your counsellor agree that counselling would be helpful, the time of the first counselling session will be agreed. Sessions are then arranged weekly for the same day and time and will last for 50 minutes.
