Job Title: Operations Director
Location: Taunton, Somerset (with flexibility for hybrid working)
Salary: Up to £47,250 (pro rata), depending on experience
Contract: Permanent, up to 24 hours per week

Somerset Counselling Centre is seeking a forward thinking, collaborative Operations Director to provide strategic and operational leadership alongside our Clinical Director. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to play a central role in strengthening our services, developing our organisation, and supporting the wellbeing of our community.
We have recently completed our five year plan. With a period of growth and renewal ahead, we are ready for an exceptional leader to help steer our next phase of development.

We provide high quality, accessible counselling supported by a diverse and skilled team, ranging from trainees to BACP accredited counsellors and supervisors.

About the Role
As Operations Director, you will:
- Lead and oversee the operational delivery of the organisation
- Develop and implement the business plan and annual budget
- Manage and diversify funding streams (contracts, fundraising, EAP work, donations, client fees)
- Ensure robust policies, governance, safeguarding, and compliance
- Recruit, support, and coordinate staff, volunteers, and student counsellors
- Build and maintain external relationships to enhance SCC’s reputation and partnerships
- Ensure all legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements are met
- Create mechanisms to gather and act on client and stakeholder feedback
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking an Operations Director who brings:
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team‑building skills
- Experience working within collaborative or co‑leadership structures
- Strong governance, planning, financial management, and risk management experience
- Understanding of (or willingness to quickly learn about) the mental health and counselling sector
- Experience working with trustees and managing diverse teams
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, with a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion
- Sound financial literacy—able to interpret financial reports, oversee budgeting, and support strategic financial decisions
