EMDR
SCC provides a safe space to talk to a skilled counsellor, who will listen and help you understand how past experiences, worries about the future, or lack of self-confidence may be affecting your life.
WHAT IS EMDR AND HOW IT CAN HELP?
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy designed to help people process traumatic or distressing experiences.
It is used to support people experiencing symptoms such as anxiety, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, or depression, and is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The therapy involves bilateral stimulation—such as guided eye movements, gentle tapping, or alternating sounds—to help the brain reprocess difficult memories. This can reduce the emotional intensity of distressing experiences and help them feel more manageable.
EMDR AT SCC
Places for EMDR are limited and access is subject to two initial consultation sessions to ensure the therapy is appropriate and beneficial for you, followed by a structured course of 14 sessions.
The initial consultations allow counsellors to understand the your needs and explain the therapy process clearly, helping you feel confident and supported before beginning treatment.
The SCC Counselling Service has been accredited by BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) since 2003.
The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) is a membership organisation and a registered charity that sets standards for therapeutic practice and provides information for therapists, clients of therapy, and the general public.
